When it comes to trauma healing, many people think the goal is to always feel calm. But here’s the truth: healing doesn’t begin with calm—it begins with safety. When the body feels safe enough, it finally has permission to soften, release, and move toward healing. Healing that includes, the grounding, the calm, the intensity, the scary - it includes the range and variety of emotions that being human offers. Safety doesn’t mean nothing hard will come up. It means that when something does rise to the surface, there’s enough inner support to meet it with presence instead of panic. And when the panic is there, safe enough means meeting the panic, allowing it, processing it so it moves through and grounded presence instead of only the panic presence is available. Maybe safety looks like: ✨ Turning towards the hard, knowing you can move toward and away with choice. This is another way to describe regulation—being able to shift in and out of emotions, sensations and thoughts, with choice. A regulated nervous system doesn’t mean you never feel anxious, frozen, or overwhelmed. Rather, you can notice these in your body, Use tools to return to the state you choose, Trusting that you’re not stuck in any one emotion, thought loop or sensation forever. This is where healing occurs. Not in pushing harder. Not in perfect stillness. But in creating enough safety in your body to have choice around taking the next step. I taught about this in my September monthly masterclass and offered lots of tools to practice regulation as we moved in and out of different states. I will share one of them here: It is a Polyvagal Tool called Glimmers. Glimmers are the opposite of triggers. While triggers send our body into a survival state, glimmers send our body into a connected state. Seated, standing or laying down, think of a fleeting, everyday moment that caused a rush of happiness, awe, gratitude....a sunset, favorite song, sunshine, water, a smile or laugh....Touch your body where the sensation is.
Then afterwards, exploring within, how are you feeling now? Remember, ❤️ You Matter. Your Healing Matters. You Are Worth It! 👉 If you’re looking for more tools like this—to steady your nervous system, feel safe in your body, and step into more glimmers—my Basic Foundation Program was designed for you. It’s a gentle, unique to you, step-by-step way to offer body based-based practices (that actually work) to your trauma healing journey. I still have some spots available.

The end of summer can feel like standing between two worlds—lazy days fading behind us and the structure of September routines stretching out ahead. Our nervous system notices this shift. What happens within your system? For many, it stirs up restlessness, overwhelm, or the sense of being pulled in a dozen directions at once. And for others, September feels like a welcome exhale. After months of spontaneity and non-structure, the rhythm of schedules can bring the nervous system relief and...
Healing from trauma can feel like standing at the base of a steep mountain. From down below, the path looks impossible—so far, so high, so exhausting. Maybe you’ve felt that weight: The urge to push through and scramble up as fast as you can, even when your body is pleading for rest. Or the opposite—the collapse and desire to quit before you even begin, because the climb feels too overwhelming to try. And in those moments, two very different voices often show up inside: One says, “Just push...
In the past week, a few of my clients shared similar experiences with me. During our somatic and/or vagal practices together, each of them felt intense emotions or physical sensations come up. They leaned toward the practice… then backed off. Then leaned in again… then pulled back. Some wondered if they were “doing it wrong.” Others felt a little afraid of what was surfacing. A few thought it was just plain weird. The truth? This is part of the healing journey. What they were doing is...
