Happy Winter friends! Whether you love winter, it feels dreary, or somewhere in between, here is something to consider about winter….. Winter isn’t just a season on the calendar. A time when energy naturally turns inward. Most plants do not bloom in winter. For many nervous systems, especially those shaped by trauma, winter (repair, integration, and quiet reorganization) can feel uncomfortable or even alarming.
But winter isn’t a failure of momentum. And it’s a cycle that can happen over and over in a single day, week, month, or yearly like the seasonal cycle. One of my clients said recently - after a session centered on wintering (repair, integration ands reorganization - Her comment reminded me of this quote: "Your heart has been through so much, yet you keep showing up. That resilience is extraordinary. Give yourself credit for the growth you've achieved, even when it feels invisible." anonymous or unknown origin That’s the gift of wintering in the body—not pushing forward, but coming back. Not fixing. Just returning. Which sometimes is more than a “just”, sometimes simply is "just", and sometimes somewhere in between….. And the invite to honor ourselves in the returning. What comes up for you when I say wintering? I invite you to hold onto that….Then…Here is a wintering practice to try exploring what came up…. A Body-Based Winter Reflection (5 minutes)If it feels okay, you might try this right now, sometime today or later this week:
That’s it. No fixing. One thing Winter teaches us is that regulation doesn’t have to feel energizing and sometimes it still will…. Sometimes all of this feels amazing and sometimes it feels terrifying or super uncomfortable…. And when we honor any of this cycle, we don’t disappear. We return. If you need support learning how to recognize these cycles in your own body—or if winter feels especially hard right now—you’re not alone. You can reply to this email, join one of my in person classes, or simply keep practicing these small moments of return. Remember, ❤️ You Matter. Your Healing Matters. You Are Worth It! P.S. Many women I work with don’t struggle because they’re too sensitive. - Even if that's how others label it..... They struggle because they’re actually too strong. Strong at holding it together.Strong at pushing through discomfort.Strong at staying alert, capable, and (mostly or somewhat) on top of things — even when their body is exhausted.Strong at feeling intense emotion and relentless thoughts internally, while still showing up as “fine” on the outside. That kind of strength often comes...
Today is the last day of December. There’s often a quiet pause here—a moment where we look back at what this year held, and then glance ahead toward January. And January often arrives with some sort of pressure... New goals. New habits. New energy. A sense that we should be doing more… faster… better. But for a nervous system—especially one shaped by trauma—January doesn’t have to be full of hustle. I invite us to some slowness. Because slowness isn’t laziness. Slowness isn’t avoidance....
There’s a particular kind of tired that shows up this time of year. Not just sleepy tired — but bone-deep, soul-heavy, I’m holding too much tired. Clients have recently said: “I feel like I do 90% of the work to make Christmas happen.” “I’m just tired.” “I can’t afford to have another really depressed day. There is too much to do” “I pretend it’s not there and it turns into frustration or resentment.” If any of that resonates and you feel it in your body… you’re not alone. During the...
