Lately, I've had a lot of clients who have been processing through some really hard stuff. And then also having some really great breakthroughs. Feeling empowered. Feeling proud of themselves. Noticing how differently they're showing up in their lives. And it's been amazing to watch. One of the things I've been inviting them to do is to sit with the empowerment just as much as they're willing to sit with the hard. Because I've been noticing…… As we do this work, and we've already processed through some really hard things, we start to know that we can do it. We've built capacity. We've learned tools. We've learned how to stay with ourselves through things that used to feel overwhelming. And then the next hard thing comes along, and we just do it. We're a powerhouse! But then, when we let that pendulum swing to the other side…… Do we give ourselves the same permission to process the good? To sit with the empowerment? To soak it in, notice it, acknowledge it, and let our body feel it for as long as we need? And then let that move through our system too? I want to honor the validity of both. This body that we have. This container that holds our safety, our joys, our sorrows. That holds our organs, our blood, our heart, and all the physiology that keeps us alive. Our bodies are capable of so much. (And yes, lots of times we have to build capacity to process what comes our way). But I also want to honor that sometimes it's hard to give ourselves the space, and even the credit, to sit with the good stuff. And it's sooo good for our systems when we can.... So here's an invitation to practice doing just that. A Body-Based Tool for Processing the GoodAnd the cool thing is……this isn't anything new. It's actually the same kind of tool we use to process the hard stuff. First, pause. Stop what you're doing for a moment and notice the physicality of your body. Notice your posture. Your shoulders, head, spine, hands, hips, knees, and feet. As you notice, does your body want to move or shift? Or would it rather stay right where it is? You can close your eyes if that feels okay, or look around at your surroundings while noticing what's happening inside your body. Now, bring to mind a time when you felt proud of yourself. A time when you knew you'd done a good job, or were happy with the way you showed up. See if you can find some sensations in your body around that experience. Maybe it's a slight smile. Notice the muscles in your face and the light or sensations on the inside that's causing you to smile. Maybe there's an energy in your chest. Maybe you stand a little straighter. Maybe there's a grounding in your feet. Now see what happens when you let breath, color, sensation, energy or movement be a part of it. For breath - Maybe you take a longer exhale and let the inhale take care of itself. Or notice the breath moving through your body. Is there a color that goes with what you're feeling? How big are these sensations? What does the energy feel like? And if it feels available, maybe you give yourself a big hug, a pat on the back, or even a little wink in the mirror! Now, I invite you to soak it all in one more time. Really let it nourish your system. Acknowledge the empowerment. The pride. The way you showed up. Sit with it for as long as your body needs. And then…… See what happens when you let it move on through. Making Room for Whatever Comes NextI love the reminder that we don't have to be graspy with the good stuff. We don't have to hold on to it or make it stay. We can notice it. Honor it. Let it nourish us. And then let it move through. Just like we practice doing with the hard stuff. And as we do, we make room for the next wave. Maybe that next wave is something hard. Something we don't like or didn't want. Or maybe it's something good and nourishing again. Both get to be part of our experience. And both give us opportunities to continue building our capacity to live in our bodies. Not just to survive the hard stuff…… But to really let ourselves experience the good stuff, too. Remember, ❤️ You Matter. Your Healing Matters. You Are Worth It! P.S. Just a reminder...I am changing things up a bit in my business. I don't want to be adding to your junk email. So I am going over who opens and finds these emails helpful to keep on my email list. Lately, we've had a lot of storms where I live. Which means we've had a lot of cloudy days. And as we move further into fall and toward winter, I've been noticing how much my body misses something. I miss looking up and seeing the contrast of blue and green..... The blue sky against green leaves or green pine needles. (Thankfully, where I live, we have a lot of evergreen trees, so even as we move into winter, we still get some green). There's something about looking up and seeing that blue...
I've been thinking about the power of AND lately. The idea that two things that seem to contradict each other can actually both be true. And how helpful it can be, especially as we're healing from trauma, to allow ourselves to explore both perspectives instead of feeling like we have to choose one or the other. I want to invite you to try some AND perspectives with me today. And before I share these two perspectives, I'd love for you to take a moment to ground yourself and check in with your...
I saw an Instagram post today where someone was letting their audience know they were going to be gone for a bit, it said, "I'll be in the mountains, writing more content." And....they wouldn't be available to answer questions and would be missing a few posts. It made me think... You would have to think ahead of time to do that. I've missed writing three newsletters and didn't let anybody know...... Partly, because I wasn't ever planning on missing them. And the other part....because I've...
